I’m sure you’ve noticed how well the new Twilight movie, “Breaking Dawn Pt.1”, has done in the box office but now it’s time to decide if you actually want to see the movie. If you’ve made it this long without going to a showing at your local theater then I realize this may take some convincing. Let me being by explaining that even though I’ve seen every Twilight movie, I’ve never actually read any of the books. Anything opinion wise that I have to say is coming from the perceptive of a movie goer who decided to see the new fad movie.
Compared to the previous movies in the Twilight Saga, “Breaking Dawn Pt. 1” is by far the best movie as far as production and quality goes. Each Twilight film has been produced and created by a different group of people. To see the progress from the low-budget film “Twilight” was and to watch “Breaking Dawn Pt. 1” it’s easy to appreciate the fact that the movie has progressed. Aside from the actually quality of the movie, it’s still the same concept as the movies before it.
“ Well, I think it stayed more true to the book than the rest of the movies did,” Michelle Kearns, a fan of the Twilight Saga who has read the books as well as seen the movies, said.
Since most of the fan base of the movies are young people who had read the books already, it’s important that the plot stays the same and that the words of their beloved book are portrayed correctly.
“Breaking Dawn Pt. 1” isn’t about to win an Oscar for Film of the Year but if you’re bored and need something entertaining this movie can do the trick. Half of the movie going experience with this movie is understanding that it’s not a serious movie. “Breaking Dawn Pt. 1” is definitely an easy-going movie experience that doesn’t require following a complicated plot line!

Earlier this week during the “2011 Grammy Nomination Concert,” the nominees for the 2011 Grammy Awards were announced. Receiving a Grammy is the highest honor as an artist, so seeing who gets nominated is interesting. Every year there are surprises as to who wins the Grammy and the buzz all begins when the nominations are announced to the public. So who was nominated for what?
Well, since it’s not February 12th yet we can only guess, but if I had to bet on it the three highest honors of the night may go to the same artist. The categories of record of the year, song of the year, and album of the year, all have Adele as a nominee for the song “Rolling in the Deep” and her second album “21.” With all the success Adele has been having this year, especially with the song “Rolling in the Deep” I don’t see how she couldn’t win! Along with the obvious standouts like Adele and Kanye West, there were a few surprises in who was nominated and who wasn’t.
“I’m a little surprised that Katy Perry and Kanye West didn’t get nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “E.T.”,” Jana Biever, a fan of popular music, explains. Though the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category has Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera’s “Moves Like Jagger” as a standout as well as Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks”, it is strange that a song that was popular throughout most of the summer didn’t make the cut.
I know I’m excited to see who ends up winning all of these awards and to see who will be performing. As far as award show season goes, The Grammy Awards are always the highlight for me!
After pushing back the release date of his album in order to put more songs on the track list, Drake has finally released his sophomore album “Take Care.” Coming off of the success of his first album, “Take Care” is Drake’s opportunity to show that he isn’t just a trend and that is success is from a great deal of hard work and detailed planning. Though those who aren’t fans of Drake may be hesitant to buy the album, it’s important to understand that there is more to Drake’s music than what is directly heard on the radio.
“I feel as though all his songs deal with girls in a way that doesn’t appeal to me” Hakkam Zaghmout, fan of music who admits to not really liking Drake, explains.
Most of “Take Care” is songs that describe that woe of love found and lost and how having money can help. Since the album does mainly have songs that have a slow-tempo and describe Drake’s love life, if you aren’t a fan of Drake this may not be the best way to go. Fans of Drake will love this album, just like they loved Thank Me Later.
“Take Care” by Drake can be purchased online and in stores!

Ryan Murphy takes a turn for the horrifying from his claim to fame “Glee” with the new FX show “American Horror Story.” “American Horror Story” follows the events of the Harmon family once the move to Los Angeles and start living in a new home. The Harmon’s slowly being to realize that there’s something strange about their new home. As they begin to uncover the history of the house, they learn that they are living in what’s known as The Murder House and that the unexplainable events that begin to take over their lives are a result of the house its self and that they are not in control.
This week’s episode, “Spooky Little Girl,” looks into the famous historical Black Dahlia murder that happened at the home and the ghost of Elizabeth Short comes back to the Murder House. During the episode it is revealed that the twins Vivien is pregnant with each have different fathers. For the audience, the mystery of the rubber man becomes even more interesting but throughout the episode Ben is conflicted by this news and questions Vivien’s faithfulness.
“The plot is explosively taking a twisted turn even more so than the usual,” Mason Marcum, a fan of the show, explains.
After the twist of discovering Tate is the Rubber Man, this week’s episode goes more in depth as to why Tate’s character would take on two identities as well as the consequences of his careless actions. As the episodes of this season continue to air the web of events becomes more and more tangled.
If you’re looking for a new show to watch that will intrigue and at times confuse you this is it. Don’t let the title scare you off too much! Though the show does have its share of spooks the plot will keep you coming back for more.
New episodes air Wednesday nights at 10 and to catch up on the season Hulu.com has most of the previous episodes!

If you ask some people what they love the most about this time of year, they would describe one special day this season that displays wonder and is filled with angels… I’m talking about the “2011 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show”, of course. The fashion show on CBS gave viewers a chance to get a sneak peck of the new holiday products at Victoria’s Secret as well as see the elaborate angel-winged outfits that only grace the catwalk on the world known Victoria’s Secret models deservingly known as the Victoria’s Secret Angels. Along with the beautiful angles that graced the runway there were preforms from music favorites such as Maroon 5, Watch the Throne duo Jay-Z and Kanye West, Super Bass rapper Nicki Minaj closed the show.
“My favorite part was the behind the scenes of how the models were handpicked and seeing the detail of each outfit being put together,” Cara Weathers, an employee at the Victoria’s Secret located in Fair Oakes, explains.
The show is perfect for everyone whether you want to admire the beautiful designer lingerie and the gorgeous woman wear them. I’m sure the spectacle of annual fashion show invaded everyone’s dorm room, girls and boys alike. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion was the perfect hour distraction filled with music, fashion, and beautiful people.

The up-beat Fox show “Glee” tackles the topic of coming out the closet to loved-ones in this week’s episode. After being “outed” Santana is forced to comfort her family about her sexuality before they find out through political ad against Sue. Finn’s suggestion to make the lesson of the week “Lady Music Week” leads to a fun group rendition of Kathy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” by the girls of New Directions and the Trouble Tones and a swoon-worthy serenade of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” by Finn to Santana.
“I really liked when Santana came out to her grandmother,” Stuart McDonald, fan of the show, explained.
Though it is realistic, watching Santana’s grandmother turn away from her as Santana explains that she is gay makes for a tragic moment. “Glee” isn’t new to the topic of disapproving family members (Quinn’s pregnancy confession to her parents), it’s always hard to watch a character the audience has grown to care about be hurt by her own loved-ones.
Along with Santana’s decision to come out the closet, the episode showed a heart-broken Coach Beiste and finally holds the high school presidency elections as well as the Congressional elections. Overall, this episode shows the vulnerabilities in many of the characters. The episode ends with Santana singing a ballad and expressing thanks to the members of New Direction and the Trouble because she finally understands that she is not alone.
